Virus hoaxes

This won't be a rant. This will be a call to all to just look a little deeper before you willy-nilly forward that scary email warning of terrifying, computer-crushing viruses.

If you get one of those "Please forward this to everyone you've ever met" emails that warn you about viruses coming to kill your computer hidden in photos of Osama being hanged or something like that, how about going to www.symantec.com and searching this mythical virus beforehand.

They have a HUGE store of detail on actual viruses and those stupid fear-inspiring email hoaxes people like to send. These hoax emails are as good as spam and they use your own fear to drown the internet in them.

So just check up on them before you press the "forward to all" button and eat up a chunk of your bandwidth sending out an email for something that doesn't exist.

Hell, if you don't know about Symantec, just Google it and I'm sure you'll find the info that way too.

If we all do this, those hoaxers are stopped in their tracks and they don't win.

Let's not perpetuate the cycle of fear. Let's get smart. Let's Google!
